• My role involves executing field surveys, which encompass cadastral and engineering surveys such as subdivisions, topographical surveys, infrastructure setting out and check for field-plan conformance during projects. I mentor survey interns who usually are attached with the firm for at least 9 months and junior survey staff. The role also involves preparing survey drawings and plans, producing reports of field work, liasing with various project team members and stakeholders and communicating and reporting progress. Survey drawings are done using AutoCAD and Civil 3D which I am proficient at. In terms of equipment I am proficient with GPS, total stations and levels. As the survey department most senior employee, I am responsible for ensuring adherence to safety standards.

• This role is a volunteer role undertaken as part of my continuous professional development. Since I undertook this exciting role, it has been an excellent learning opportunity in addition to being a great networking opportunity. In this role I undertake construction and field surveys such as levelling, site control establishment, topographical surveys and plotting. The role involves reporting to the senior surveyor who has been an exceptional mentor with vast experience in the field of construction surveying. In terms of CAD, the role offers opportunities to master engineering drawing procedures and techniques such as profile generation using CAD software among other things.
